Woodhaven Counseling Associates was established in 1983 as a group mental health practice by Dr. John Wineman, a clinical psychologist. Our original location was at 160th and West Center Road, in the Woodhaven strip mall – thus the origin of our practice’s name. By 1989, we outgrew our space and moved to our present location in West Omaha.
Beginning with only one other therapist, Woodhaven grew at one point to 13 therapists. Our alumni therapists have generally gone on to teach at local universities or establish their own independent practices. Presently we have 10 full and part-time therapists with a wide range of specialties.
Our practitioners have not only been experienced therapists, but have at various times taught academic courses or regularly guest lectured at the College of Saint Mary, Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
Before it was common or required, Woodhaven routinely collaborated with an on-site family physician to assure that our clients received coordinated medical and mental health care. Later, Woodhaven was the first non-medical mental health practice in the metropolitan area to include a full-time psychiatrist among the group. In this tradition, Woodhaven continues to maintain close working relationships with the psychiatric community.
Over the course of the years, Woodhaven has firmly established itself as a competent, ethical, client-centered practice in the greater Omaha area. In fact, we have served clients not only from the entire state of Nebraska, but also from South Dakota, Missouri and Iowa.
Since July 1, 2006, Woodhaven Counseling Associates has been owned and managed by Dr. LeaAnn Lape-Brinkman, a child psychologist. It is her clear intent to continue to maintain our high professional standards and provide the best possible services to our clients.
